I don’t know about you but The Jeremy Kyle Show is one of my guilty pleasures, it’s one of those shows that’s so bad it’s actually quite good. From the unbelievable story lines to the complex family backgrounds and blazing rows I just love it.
Not only is it fantastic entertainment but it’s also given me some great ideas on how to save money whenever and wherever possible, below are three things that Jeremy and his intrepid team have taught me.
1. Chase The Deal
We’ve all seen those episodes where the main protagonist realises he’s been rumbled and storms off the stage, but what does Jeremy do? He chases them, confronts them and usually gets a great reaction from them.
So if you want to save money you have to be as tenacious as Jeremy Kyle and chase the deal. I’m talking about hunting for coupons online, using cashback sites wherever possible, searching the forums and bulk buying BOGOFs.
By fully committing to reducing the amount of money you spend you will find that saving money becomes much easier. And it’s very rewarding, especially when you finally find that 50% discount voucher that you’ve been searching for all week!
2. Summarise Your Goals
At the beginning of every segment Jeremy gets his cards and reads out a brief overview detailing the things that have happened in the story that we’re about to hear. It’s at this point that the crowd decide whose side they are going to be on. Are they on the cheat or the cheater’s side, the husband or the wife’s, the saver or the spender’s?
By summarising your own goals, such as listing what you are saving for, it can make it easier to resist spending your hard earned money on things you don’t really need.
So why not try ityourself? Make a list of all the things you are saving for and pop it in your purse or wallet, that way every time you think about spending you will consider if you really need it or if the money would be better used elsewhere.
3. Get Professional Help
At the end of most segments on Jeremy Kyle you will often see trained professionals come in and offer advice and counselling. By getting experts to come in and help, the show actually helps to resolve conflicts and improve the circumstances of many involved.
This can also be true for saving. You can get professional savings advice from sources such as Martin Lewis, your local bank and, if you’re saving to pay off your debts, professional debt solutions companies.
